How we check listings
Every listing on ClockInToday is researched from primary sources, cited on the page, and rechecked every month. Here's exactly how, and what we do when we get something wrong.
What gets listed
A job or app is listed only if a typical applicant can start without a job interview. Screening steps like an ID check, a background check, a driving record check, an online assessment, or a health screening at a plasma center are fine; a hiring interview is not. If a company requires an interview or a psychological evaluation, it isn't listed, even if it pays well. That's why, for example, egg and sperm donation programs appear only in a separate guide, not in the listings.
If a platform charges you anything to start, such as a registration fee, a membership or a background-check fee, the listing says so. We don't list adult content sites.
Where the information comes from
- The company's own pages first: requirement, eligibility, pay and FAQ pages from the company itself.
- Government sources for laws and wages: state labor departments, minimum wage and gig-worker pay laws.
- Independent data for pay where companies don't publish it, such as earnings reports from driver-analytics firms, always labeled with the source.
- Reputable news reports only when nothing more direct exists, such as seasonal hiring announcements, and always dated.
City pages add two kinds of local data: plasma centers taken from each company's own center finder, and which apps list the city on their own market or city pages. Platform pages can also show worker pay reports: anonymous, self-reported earnings from people who work on the app. We don't verify them, label them as self-reported, and show totals only once five or more people have reported.
Every platform page lists its sources at the bottom, so you can check them yourself.
What each field means
- Minimum age: the youngest age the company accepts, with state exceptions where they apply.
- Background check: "Background check" means the company runs one before you can start; "ID only" means it verifies identity but doesn't run a criminal background check, as far as its own pages say.
- Vehicle: whether you need a car, a bike, or nothing.
- Payout: how fast earnings reach you once you've earned them, such as instant cashout, next day, weekly, or "Not published" when the company doesn't say.
- Reported pay: the figure and its source. Pay is shown before expenses; for driving work we note that gas and wear typically cut earnings 25–40%.
- Worker type: employee (W-2), independent contractor (1099), participant, or "Not stated" when the company doesn't say. We don't guess.
When we can't confirm something
If a company doesn't publish a detail, we write "Not published" or "Not stated" rather than estimating. If sources disagree, we use the company's own current page and note the conflict. Listings we couldn't fully confirm carry a note on the page saying so.
How often we recheck
We recheck every listing every month, and state and city pages after the January and July minimum wage changes each year. Each page shows the date it was last checked, and the updates page lists what changed in each recheck.
Corrections
If you spot something wrong or out of date, email hello@clockintoday.com, ideally with a link to the source. We review every correction, fix confirmed errors as soon as we can, and note significant changes on the updates page.
Independence
ClockInToday isn't affiliated with any company it lists. Some links may earn us a fee, which never affects what we list, how the quiz ranks platforms, or the pay data we publish. See our affiliate disclosure.
